The chips are starting to fall in the NBA coaching world.
Mark Jackson was fired by the Golden State Warriors and replaced by Steve Kerr. That was after former Miami Heat and Orlando Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy spurned the Warriors to become president and general manager of the Detroit Pistons.
That leaves two of the NBA’s most storied franchises, the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks, without coaches.
According to Eric Pincus of The Los Angeles Times and Basketball Insiders, the Lakers are just feeling things out and are waiting until after Tuesday night’s lottery to really dive in.
From what I've heard, Lakers haven't made "formal" inquiries yet on any coach - initial feelers but waiting til lottery

No matter what the Lakers do, former Lakers’ player and three-time NBA head coach Byron Scott is always there as a fall back option.
I would say it's safe to say Byron Scott is always available to Lakers - if he's fallback - the team don't need to rush to anything

Scott has posted a regular season record of 416-521 in the regular season and 33-24 in the postseason with the New Jersey (Brooklyn) Nets, New Orleans Hornets (Pelicans) and Cleveland Cavaliers.
