For this past week on the diamond, the Oakland Athletics’ Brandon Moss was named American League Player of the Week, according to MLB Public Relations.

It is a nice little title to bestow onto somebody and the perfect award for an Oakland A. Not only does it imply someone is having a great week, it also falls under the radar since another is handed out next week! A Player of the Week honor encapsulates Oakland’s baseball team right now as nothing else can.

First for Moss specifically, he is raking right now. This past week he batted .455 with nine extra-base hits and 11 RBI. For the season, in really his first ever season being a full-time player, Moss leads the league in OPS+ and has already knocked in 39 baserunners. For the A’s as a whole, this is the best team in baseball and no one seems to notice.

Right now Oakland is sitting at 28-16 on the year, 3.5 games up in the AL West. While the Detroit Tigers technically have a better record, the Athletics have by far the best run differential in all of baseball. At +95, Oakland is 40 runs better than anyone else going right now, with Detroit coming in second at +55. The A’s have scored the most runs in baseball of all non-Colorado teams and already have a 95.8 percent chance of making the playoffs, according to ESPN’s playoff predictor.

Moss may have been AL Player of the Week, but Oakland should get some award for being the best team no one is talking about.
