The New York Jets cut wide receiver Santonio Holmes back in March right before the start of free agency. The move created $8.25 million in cap space for the Jets, but also leaves behind $2.5 million in dead money. Not the worst situation though.
In a report from Pro Football Talk in early April, they cited a league source saying “Holmes likely will wait until after the draft to pick his next team.”
Well the draft has come and gone and there hasn’t been much news about Holmes and a potential new team. NFL media insider Ian Rapoport said that the Browns would monitor Holmes and Miles Austin after news of wide receiver Josh Gordon’s suspension broke. Ultimately though, the Browns signed former Cowboys receiver Austin.

Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor said Tuesday on TribLive Radio that Holmes and former NFL Defensive Player of the Year James Harrison want to return to the Steelers.
It doesn’t look like the Holmes are interested in either though according to a report from Scott Brown of ESPN.com. He cites the Steelers moves to fill the void at wide receiver as a reason why the Steelers haven’t shown interest in Holmes.
"The Steelers have not had any discussions with Harrison’s agent, Bill Parise, about a possible return to Pittsburgh. Nor have they shown any interest in Holmes after signing two free-agent wide receivers in Lance Moore and Darrius Heyward-Bey and taking Clemson product Martavis Bryant in the fourth round of the draft."
Unfortunately for Holmes, he is on the wrong side of 30 and building a reputation for being injury prone. In the last two seasons he missed 17 games, but he is still one of the best receivers on the market. Some team will get desperate to fill the void at wide receiver and will pursue and sign Holmes. It might not be till training camp when injuries begin to pop up though.
