In quite the shocking move to some, Super Bowl 52 in 2018 has been awarded to Minneapolis, Minnesota, who beat out the city of New Orleans to host the event. It will take place in their new state-of-the-art stadium that is currently being constructed.

The voting on Tuesday came down to Minneapolis, Indianapolis and New Orleans. Shortly after the ballots began being collected, Indy was quickly removed and it came down to Minneapolis and NOLA.

Even coming into Tuesday’s voting process, New Orleans was the clear favorite to walk away with the bid. Not only are they tied at the top with hosting the most Super Bowls at 10, but 2018 also happens to be the 300th anniversary of one of the biggest party cities in the country, meaning that a Super Bowl would be the best way to kick that off.

But in the end, after two more votes, Minneapolis came out victorious and their gorgeous new facility will be the host of one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world.

With the construction of these stadiums nowadays, more and more cold-weather cities are going to begin winning these bids over the warm-weather climates, and it’ll be interesting to see in 2018 how the city of Minneapolis handles all the festivities.
