The San Antonio Spurs came out and took care of business against the Oklahoma City Thunder last night, winning Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals, 122-105. Tim Duncan lead the way in the scoring column, dropping 27 against the Ibaka-less frontline of OKC. Tony Parker, meanwhile, ran the show, scoring 14 points and handing out 12 assists.
Along with getting the win, Parker also moved into the top ten in assists in NBA Playoffs history. His 12 assists last night move his playoff assist total to 994, vaulting Isaiah Thomas, who has 987. Parker also played in his 186th postseason game last night, an incredible mark of longevity and success.
Check out this convenient chart from Sportando, that shows just where Parker ranks among playoff assist totals all-time.
Rank | Name | Assists | Games Played |
1 | Magic Johnson | 2346 | 190 |
2 | John Stockton | 1839 | 182 |
3 | Jason Kidd | 1263 | 158 |
4 | Larry Bird | 1062 | 164 |
5 | Steve Nash | 1061 | 120 |
6 | Scottie Pippen | 1048 | 208 |
7 | Kobe Bryant | 1040 | 220 |
8 | Michael Jordan | 1022 | 179 |
9 | Dennis Johnson | 1006 | 180 |
10 | Tony Parker | 994 | 186 |
As you can see, there’s no way he gets to Magic Johnson’s unreal 2346 number, but Parker has a good shot at moving up to the top three. If the Spurs go on a deep run to the NBA Finals this year, he could even make his way to the top four this year.
So yeah, in case you forgot, Tony Parker is amazing.
