By Cory Buck
The Toronto Blue Jays had a typical start to their season. It was slow and lackluster, as their fans have grown used to this time of year. Don’t look now, but that may all be changing thanks to a few hot bats. One in particular lifted the Jays past the Red Sox in a high scoring affair.

Edwin Encarnacion hit a pair of two-run home runs against the Boston Red Sox last night in a 7-4 Toronto Blue Jays win that serves as their sixth win in their last eight games. The second of the pair was Encarnacion’s ninth home run in May with plenty of time to add to that.
This offensive explosion arrived at the right time for a Toronto squad that now sits just a half game away from the top of the AL East with miles to go in the MLB season.
If the Blue Jays pitching can keep up with their torrid bats, anything is possible in a wide open American League.
Encarnacion’s first home run came in the third inning to give Toronto an early 2-0 lead. By the fifth inning, when Encarnacion hit his second HR of the game, the score was 6-0 Toronto and the rout appeared to be on. The Red Sox closed the gap with a pair of two-run innings, but the damage had been done.
The Blue Jays and the Red Sox will continue their series tonight in Boston as Mark Buerhle gets the start for Toronto against Jon Lester.
