Hand made 16 appearances with the Marlins this season and had been working as a long reliever out of the bullpen.
He made a spot start against the Washington Nationals back on April 8, while Jacob Turner was dealing with a shoulder injury, but he only lasted three innings while giving up five runs.
So far this season the 24 year old lefty has posted a 6.38 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and 20/16 K/BB ratio over 24 innings of work with Miami.
When one man goes down, another man gets called up -the Marlins have recalled left-handed pitcher Dan Jennings from Triple-A New Orleans. The 27 year old southpaw appeared in 12 games with the big league club this season and posted himself a solid 1.59 ERA.
Jennings was optioned back to Triple-A New Orleans back on May 3 after Jacob Turner was activated from the disabled list – so this is his second stint in the Majors this season. He’ll have the opportunity to keep himself on the active roster, forcing the team to option Hand back to their Triple-A affiliate instead.
Miami takes on the Milwaukee Brewers this afternoon.
