Things got ugly at the end of the 2014 Indianapolis 500. There was a yellow flag for an accident involving Townsend Bell in turn two. They then brought out the red flag to halt the race and allow crews to clean up and make repairs to the retaining wall.

Smart, smart move by @IndyCar Red flag is the absolute right call to give the fans a green flag finish.

The more interesting implication of this red flag is how it will affect driver Kurt Busch. The NASCAR driver is competing in the Indy 500 for the first time and is currently sitting in 6th place. After this race he is hoping on a plane and flying to Charlotte Motor Speedway to compete in NASCAR Sprint Series Coca-Cola 600 race.
They said before the race that he would need to leave by 4 p.m. ET to be in Charlotte in time for the NASCAR race.
At the moment Ryan Hunter-Reay is leading the race.
