The Golden State Warriors are looking at what the future holds for them and that means that they’re going to have to spend some serious coin to stay as good as they are. With their young player maturing into stars in the NBA, the Dubs are going to have to look at who is worth keeping and who will have to be jettisoned to make cap space to keep the young stars they’re grooming for the future.

One of those players is Klay Thompson and it’s coming time to at least consider an extension for him.

Both Marcus Thompson from the Bay Area News Group as well as NBA scribe Chuck Myron believe that the Warriors will have to spend around $12 million per season to keep Klay Thompson on long term.

"Marcus Thompson of the Bay Area News Group recently pegged it at around $12MM a year, and I’d have to agree with that. The Warriors won’t get the kind of discount they got with Curry. There were legitimate fears that Curry’s ankles would never allow him to become a serviceable player when he signed that deal."

This seems to be a fair number, as Thompson is a great, All-Star caliber player who isn’t quite on an elite level just yet. $12 million per season is far from a bargain but Thompson’s development over the years have proven that the investment would be money well spent by the Dubs.

He has formed a great relationship both on and off the court with the Warriors’ golden child Stephen Curry
