This summer marks the FIBA World Cup in which teams from various countries from across the world will be gathering to basically put on what we see at the Summer Olympics with basketball sans the rest of the other competitions. NBA players will either be representing Team USA or heading back home to their native countries to try and win a title this summer.

More from NBA

One of those players heading home for the summer to compete is Phoenix Suns star guard Goran Dragic. The Phoenix sensation who revived his career this season has announced he will be heading home to represent his native Slovenia in the World Championship.

The announcement was made back home in Dragic’s native Slovenia and he expressed his excitement to represent his homeland in the upcoming FIBA World Cup.

"“This year’s NBA season in Phoenix was both physically and mentally very tough, while I was plagued by problems with a damaged ankle. At first I really wanted to take the time just for rehabilitation and family, but only after one month of break, I gained power, and is is easier now to take a final decision. Also, all the inquiries that I have done recently showed that I will be in perfect physical shape just in time for the World Championship. It is a great honour for me to represent the Slovenia in Spain and unite the fans for a common success of the Slovenian team,”"

Teure was some doubt as to whether or not Dragic would be up to plain at the World Championship but he has ultimately decided that it’s something that he wants to do.

Dragic and the Suns fell just short of the postseason this year and given how wild the west has been, there’s a good chance that the team could have made a run and done something special. But it wasn’t meant to be and while Dragic is hoping to lead the Suns to the postseason next year, he’ll be getting in some early practice with the Slovenia national team as he tries to win some sort of title this summer.
