In mid-April, Wie won the LPGA Lotte Championship for her first victory since 2010. Winning in her home state of Hawaii was special, and it was no fluke, her game had been trending towards the winner’s circle, and continues to do so.
Wie had two top-five finishes before her victory, a fourth place at the Honda LPGA Thailand in February and a second place at the Kraft Nabisco in early April. The Kraft was huge for Michelle’s confidence because it was a major championship, and she had a legitimate chance of winning if she made a few more putts.
The putts started to drop at the Lotte Championship a couple weeks after the Kraft, and Wie won for the first time in four years. She has continued playing excellent golf with a third place finish at the North Texas LPGA Shootout in early May and a T3 finish at the Airbus LPGA Classic this past weekend.
It is great to see the former prodigy back in the top 10, and contending for the title each week on the LPGA. Wie is a force in the game, and look for her to have a memorable performance at Pinehurst for the U.S. Women’s Open in a few weeks.
