World War II veteran throws out first pitch at White Sox game with a bald eagle
By Jack Maloney
Today is Memorial Day, a day for us to stop and reflect about the countless incredible sacrifices that men and women have made throughout our nation’s history in order to keep us safe. Without their heroic work, we would not be the country we are today, and there is no question about that.

Being that it is a national holiday and people are off work, there are also a lot of baseball games that go on during the day–all of them featuring some sort of tribute to our veterans. One of the coolest ones that’s happened so far, was in Chicago at the White Sox game.
Milton Greenfield, a World War II veteran, threw out the first pitch, and he was accompanied by a bald eagle. Among the many awards Greenfield has won are two Purple Hearts he earned for his actions during the Battle of Normandy. He also fought on the Battle of the Bulge and saved two men from certain death by pulling them out of a burning tank. In short, he’s an incredible person and far more brave than any of us here. So thank you, Milton, for everything you’ve done for us.
