Stan Van Gundy to offer Stu Jackson GM role of Pistons
By Jacob Rude
After being named the coach and president of the Detroit Pistons, Stan Van Gundy is expected to offer the role of general manager to Stu Jackson, former Executive Vice President of the NBA.
Jackson and Van Gundy have a history together, as the latter served as an assistant to the former at the University of Wisconsin. Jackson served as the general manager of the Vancouver Grizzlies from their first season in 1994 until 2000, a rather unsuccessful tenure. In those seven seasons, the Grizzlies never had more than 23 wins and hit rock bottom in 1998-99 when his team went 8-42 in the lockout-shortened season.

Jackson most recently served as the Executive Vice President, charged with on-the-court operations, scheduling, game rules, conduct, discipline and serving as the chair of the Competition Committee.
Van Gundy has his work cut out for him, as the Pistons went 29-53 after splashing out big cash on Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings in the off-season. After having to forfeit their draft pick to the Charlotte Hornets, the Pistons are already behind the eight-ball.
The Pistons will have some wiggle room this off-season, with both Charlie Villenueva and Rodney Stuckey coming off books. The first big decision will regard restricted free-agent Greg Monroe, whose support from Van Gundy has been rumored both for and against him.
