Buster Posey’s back is still an issue
By Hayden Kane
The San Francisco Giants have almost everything going their way right now. Steady offensive production and a starting rotation that is overachieving have come together to give the Giants the best record in the National League.

More impressive yet is the fact that the Giants have overcome injuries to significant players on their way to first place. Brandon Belt is on the disabled list with a broken thumb and catcher Buster Posey, a player who has been as decorated as any in terms of individual and team accomplishments in his young career, continues to struggle with a back issue.
Posey has avoided the disabled list thus far, but after missing two games last week he was once again held out of the lineup on Thursday because his back continues to be an issue for him. According to Chris Haft of MLB.com:
"Giants manager Bruce Bochy indicated that he didn’t consider Posey’s injury serious and rejected the notion that this could be a recurring health issue. But Bochy wants to guarantee that Posey’s ailment doesn’t become chronic.“We’d like to get this thing taken care of,” Bochy said."
The hitches to Posey’s season are reflected somewhat in his offensive numbers thus far. Through 49 games is he is batting .254/.333/.396 with seven home runs and 25 RBI. On the one hand he has done well with some uncomfortable at-bats. On the other hand, it is scary to think what this Giants team might look like if Posey truly clicks in the middle of their lineup.
