Spurs vs. Thunder: Boris Diaw catches rebound on his back (GIF)

The Oklahoma City Thunder are looking to close out the San Antonio Spurs, but they’ll have to do it in seven games if they want to see their way to another NBA Finals appearance in three years. It would be the second time in three years that the Thunder are in the Finals  but before they can get thinking about that too much they need to make their way through the Spurs in Game 6 and then again in Game 7.

It’s hard to be a good team and it’s hard to beat a lucky team which means it’s next to impossible to beat a good team who gets consistently lucky. That’s been the case for the Spurs so far in this series as they’ve seemed to get lucky bounces when they needed one and have been rewarded with momentum swings — and more importantly points.

We saw such a thing on this play in which Boris Diaw passed the ball off, hit the hardwood and seemingly looked to be out of the play. But lo and behold, the ball comes bouncing back to him after a missed shot.

So what does Diaw do? Kicks it back out and helps the Spurs get points after all.

It’s these kind of lucky bounces that make a team like the Spurs so hard to beat as not only do they have the talent to win, they have the luck to do so as well and that’s impossible to defend.
