According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the likes of Prince Devitt, Kevin Steen, and KENTA will be reporting to the WWE Performance Center by this August.
Devitt, 32, is an Irish cruiserweight, and a 3-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion. Devitt was a mainstay in New Japan Pro Wrestling prior to his WWE signing.
Steen is perhaps most familiar to American fans, as he is a former RoH World Champion. It was speculated that WWE previously had no interest in the 30-year old due to weight issues, but since, Steen has worked on his appearance. Steen was formerly a tag partner of current WWE developmental star, Sami Zayn.
KENTA, 33, is also a cruiserweight, and previously competed for Ring of Honor and Pro Wrestling Noah. KENTA also had a series of matches against current WWE champion Daniel Bryan, while the two were in Ring of Honor.
Since Triple H began handling the company’s talent relations, the quality of signings has rapidly increased.
The WWE’s developmental territory also has it’s own television program, NXT, which airs weekly on the WWE Network. The roster features future and present WWE talent as they hone their skills, learn to work WWE’s style, and become accustomed to working matches on television.
The WWE has had somewhat of a depleted roster lately, as World Champion Daniel Bryan has been forced out with an injury. Brock Lesnar has also been absent from the show, as he’s on a part time schedule. Perhaps the biggest blow to the roster has been CM Punk, who walked out on the WWE the night following the Royal Rumble in January.
Aging wrestlers who were formerly featured prominently such as Big Show, Mark Henry, Rey Mysterio and Christian have all battled health issues, and may be nearing the end of their in-ring careers.
