Manny Machado is still trying to hit his offensive stride during this 2014 season. With a slow start and some lingering issues with an injury, Machado was dropped to seventh in the order earlier in the week in an effort to get his season jump started.

There’s nothing like a grand slam in a victory to get things going.
With the Baltimore Orioles already ahead of the Houston Astros by four runs, Machado blasted a grand slam to the left field seats to extend the lead to 9-1. The Orioles would proceed to win by a final score of 9-4 and grab a gritty series split over the suddenly feisty Astros.
The Orioles are considering potential moves to add punch to their offense. That need might be even more pressing with an injury to Nelson Cruz‘s hand on Sunday. The team will likely continue to explore possible trade options, but they could receive a boost from within if Machado finds his stroke and starts producing more.
Machado was back up in the second spot in the lineup for this game despite the fact that he was only 1-for-his-last-16 at the plate entering Saturday’s game. He had two hits and this home run on Sunday. It was Machado’s third home run of the season.
