The New York Knicks do not have a pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.

The Magic own the 12th-overall pick by way of the Denver Nuggets from the Carmelo Anthony trade while the Knicks lost their second round pick to the Houston Rockets in the Marcus Camby. With very few assets, the Knicks are trying to buy a draft pick, most likely a second rounder. According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, the Knicks are eyeing a pick in the 30-40 range.

“We have a limited amount of funds that we can use. It’s been pro-rated now to every team. You know, teams do sell draft picks. We are going to approach teams and ask them in they’re willing to allow us to buy a draft pick if we feel like there’s a player we want to have at a position that comes up. So that’s a bang bang situation,” Knicks’ president Phil Jackson said. “Second round, first round is probably impossible, although Sacramento said something about their eighth pick is up for grabs. But some teams have what, seven? Philadelphia has seven picks or six picks. Milwaukee has four. They can’t even put them on the roster. You can’t draft that many players and have them as part of your roster. So obviously something is going to go on in that situation. However, saying that, there are a lot of teams that don’t have draft picks besides us, so it could be a bidding war. We’re not going to run ourselves into the ground chasing this if it doesn’t work out.”

The Knicks have already worked out former North Carolina Tar Heels’ power forward James Michael McAdoo, former Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders’ power forward Shawn Jones and former Georgetown Hoyas’ point guard Markel Starks and plan to work out former Florida Gators’ big man Patric Young this week.
