WWE Hall of Famer Abdullah the Butcher ordered to pay $2.3 million for giving another wrestler Hepatitis C

Canadian wrestler Devon Nicholson, better known as ‘Hannibal,’ was on the fast track to having one of the more successful careers in the business. He dominated the independent scene with his superior in-ring and microphone skills, and was eventually given a tryout with WWE.
His WWE dream would not come to fruition, though, as his physical revealed that he had contracted Hepatitis C from a blading incident while wrestling one of the more vicious wrestlers in the history of the business, WWE Hall of Famer Abdullah Butcher.
Nicholson filed a lawsuit against Abdullah, real name Lawrence Shreve, and on Tuesday Nicholson was awarded the victor in the case and Shreve was subsequently ordered to pay $2.3 million for what he had done.
Essentially, in the match they had on the independent scene, Abdullah had used a blade that was anything but sanitary, and he ended up ruining the careers of one of the more promising young stars the business could have had.
All along, though, Abdullah has been stating that he could not have given Nicholson the disease, but Nicholson knew a lot better than that.
“Mr. Shreve himself has been saying all along that I’m a liar, that he doesn’t have hepatitis C, he didn’t cut me, and I believe the judge made it very clear that, yes, he did cut me … and yes, he does have a history of hepatitis C,” Nicholson said.
Shreve has 30 days to file an appeal if he so chooses.
