With today marking the start of the 2014 MLB Draft, each franchise sets out to work to lay the groundwork for their future success. While scouting takes place year round, it is at the MLB Draft that the work of Major League scouts comes to fruition. As teams start to pick in the third round, scouts start to see their evaluations take shape.

The first two rounds of the MLB Draft are commonly filled with few teams feeling as though top prospects are fairly close in talent level. As the draft gets deeper, the work of scouting departments comes front and center and teams are able to go get their guy.
As the third round gets underway, it is the last rounds for teams to get their supplemental picks in. With the Marlins holding onto the lone supplemental pick in the third round, expect for this round to lay the ground work for teams strategies going forward.
