The FedEx St. Jude Classic has been plagued by weather delays, so about half the field is finishing up their second rounds today. Mickelson got off to a bad start going bogey-birdie-bogey-birdie over the first four holes, but then parred the next nine holes. He made back-to-back birdies on fourteen and fifteen to get to two-under on the round, which is where he finished. The 68 moved Phil into a tie for eighth place at five-under, seven strokes behind Ben Crane.
Ben Crane is putting lights out, and his score of 12-under par reflects his dominance on the greens. Crane has struggled this year, so he is looking forward to securing his fifth career win.
Two-time U.S. Open champ Retief Goosen is tied for second with Peter Malnati at eight-under par. Both Goosen and Malnati are finishing up their second rounds.
What a career Goosen has had! Not many people have won the U.S. Open twice, and if he can put together a good week at Pinehurst No. 2, he will enter legendary status for the national championship. The Goose has got his game in order.
Camilo Villegas is at six-under and Davis Love III is at five-under. It’s good to see several of golf’s top names duking it out in Memphis.
