PGA Tour: Ben Crane holds on to win the FedEx St. Jude Classic
Ben Crane shot a final round three-over 73 to win the FedEx St. Jude Classic by one-stroke over Troy Merritt. It may not have been pretty, but the only picture that matters is the one with the winner’s trophy.

Crane cruised through the first three rounds in Memphis, but the final round was a different story. A two-over 37 on the outward nine gave him a one-stroke lead over the final nine holes. However, no one gave Crane a serious challenge.
Troy Merritt had a chance, but a bogey on fifteen gave Crane a two-stroke lead with four holes to play. A bogey on eighteen for Crane gave him a four round total of 10-under to Merritt’s 9-under.
2012 U.S. Open Champion Webb Simpson posted a four-under 66 to get to eight-under par. Simpson eventually tied for third with Carl Pettersson and Matt Every.
A pack of golfers tied for sixth at seven-under: Ian Poulter, James Hahn, Andrew Svoboda, Brian Harman, and Billy Horschel.
Keep an eye on Poulter at next week’s U.S. Open. He has the short-game and the heart you need to compete in the season’s toughest major.
Phil Mickelson and Camilo Villegas tied for eleventh at six-under. Mickelson is still in search of his first top-10 this season. He is one of the favorites at the Open, however, it is difficult to pick him to win because he is struggling with his game.
