The winner of the St. Jude Classic, Ben Crane, made a huge jump from 150 to 41. Crane was having a lackluster season with only one top-10 at the Humana Challenge in January up until his surprising victory in Memphis. In the post-tournament press conference, Crane said his season was going so poorly that he was thinking of finding a new occupation. However, he found something special with an opening round 63 and a second round 65, which allowed him to hang on over the weekend for the win.
Several of the top players in the rankings did not play in Memphis, instead opting to rest for this week’s U.S. Open.
Top-10 in the FedEx Cup standings:
No. 1 Jimmy Walker has been the number one for essentially the entire season. He had three wins in the first eight events, and has added four more top-10s throughout the season.
No. 2 Bubba Watson will be a favorite to win the U.S. Open. With an unique setup (no rough, just waste areas) his unique game should work well.
No. 3 Matt Kuchar leads all players in top-10s with nine.
No. 4 Dustin Johnson hasn’t played too well lately, so he needs to jump start the second half of the season at Pinehurst No. 2.
No. 5 Jordan Spieth is only 20-years-old, but continues to impress every week on the PGA Tour.
No. 6 Chris Kirk, No. 8 Harris English, and No. 9 Brendon Todd all went to the University of Georgia.
No. 7 Patrick Reed went to Georgia, and then transferred to Augusta State where he won two national championship with his team.
No. 10 Kevin Na had a second place finish at the Memorial a couple weeks ago after losing in a playoff to Hideki Matsuyama.
