The NBA is a league that is as much about fashion as it is about actual sport, and that’s reflected in the turf wars that ignite thanks to certain players signing certain endorsement deals with certain companies. It’s complicated, to say the least and it’s tedious, if we’re being blunt, but endorsement deal wars help fuel rivalries and Andrew Wiggins is already picking sides.

More from NBA

The potential No. 1 overall pick in teh draft is reportedly meeting with Nike in Portland to discuss an endorsement deal that would see the company land one of the best prospects in the draft class. Wiggins is high profile, and Nike landing him would be huge in their war against adidas in the NBA.

The Nike-adidas war has been brewing for years and it’s likely going to end with Nike eventually getting uniform licenses like it recently got with the NFL. It’s a deal that has made Reebok pretty much an irrelevant company in the grand scheme of things and Nike is coming hard after adidas.

Basketball is the only sport that adidas truly has any pull, and Nike landing Wiggins would be a body blow that adidas would need to answer by inking a top prospect of their own to add to a roster that already includes a slew of up and coming NBA stars that should keep the company relevant for years to come.
