The New York Knicks have found a head coach, are entering an exciting new era and have restored a little bit of hope for the future. But they’re still in a situation in which they need to figure out if Carmelo Anthony is going to be a part of their future or not and it’s so far looking not so peachy.

New York has remained confident since the trade deadline back in February that Melo isn’t going anywhere and that they’ll be able to either re-sign him or convince him to not opt out of his current contract.
According to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, despite rumors that Carmelo Anthony is thinking about staying with the Knicks and playing out the remainder of his contract, the All-Star forward is still planning on opting out of his deal at this point in time.
New York is desperately trying to convince Melo to stay and proof of that is being seen in reports that Phil Jackson and new head coach Derek Fisher plan on showing off their Lakers championship rings to Melo to emphasize how qualified they are to help him win a title.
But the fact of the matter is, Jackson and Fisher are showing Melo their own rings — not Melo’s rings — and they’re showing off jewelery rather than ways Melo himself can attain such a prize. That’s the fundamental flaw everyone is missing in this whole plan by the Knicks as they are literally being flashy to distract from the fact the team likely won’t be any good again in 2014-15.
