Pirates rookie sensation Gregory Polanco had himself quite a day Friday. Five hits including a 13th inning home run for his first career round-tripper. Oh, and the dinger proved to be the game winner. Yup, that will get it done. Pour yourself out a tall glass of whatever you like to drink Polanco, you earned it and then some.

More from MLB

Best part of the night for Polanco, he didn’t even have to cough up anything to get back the home run ball from the fan who caught it. The fan happily gave the ball back to Polanco in exchange for a different ball (presumably autographed). That is what I call an accommodating fan.

Some might call this fan a stupid fan considering the potential future value of Gregory Polanco’s first-ever home run ball. Yes, the fan could have held out for something way more valuable than another ball, or held onto the ball until it became worth a lot of money, but I still like the gesture. That fan gets it. That home run ball is Polanco’s memory, not his.

I wish there were more fans who knew how to see beyond their own selfishness and greed and really appreciate the big picture. Then there would be fewer idiots killing each other over foul balls. Good guy fan, pour yourself out a drink too.
