NBA Rumors: Kevin Love wants to play with Rajon Rondo?

Just a few weeks ago, Minnesota Timberwolves’ star power forward Kevin Love took a very public vacation to Boston.

Because Love can become a free agent after the 2014-2015 season and has let it be known that he will not be signing a contract extension with the Timberwolves, speculation ran rampant that Love was going to try to force his way to the Celtics. When he was caught on camera hanging out with Celtics’ point guard Rajon Rondo at a Red Sox game, that only added fuel to the fire.

There are some who believe this may be the year the Celtics trade Rondo, but Chuck Myron of Hoops Rumors believes they would like to hang on to Rondo and trade their sixth-overall pick, ideally for Love.

"I don’t think Kevin Love and his agent would have made their well-publicized tour of Boston a few weekends ago if no one really wanted to play with Rondo. The chatter around Rondo persists even as Danny Ainge continually denies, so while I suspect there’s something there, I nonetheless think Rondo will be staying in Boston, at least through the summer. I think the pick is in play for a Kevin Love trade, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the C’s trade it even if it’s not for Love. There’s a glut of power forwards projected to be available when their number comes up, and the Celtics already have too many PFs."

Although Love hasn’t publicly stated he wants to play with Rondo, if healthy, Rondo would immediately become the best teammate Love has had in the NBA.

Love averaged 26.1 points, 12.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game last season while shooting 45.7% from the field, 37.6% from three and 82.1% from the charity stripe. Rondo was limited just 30 games while returning from his knee injury and averaged 11.7 points, 9.8 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. He shot 40.3% from the field, 28.9% from beyond the arc and 62.7% from the free throw line.
