In the month of June, the Gamecocks had added 4-star defensive end Arden Key, 4-star offensive tackle Austin Clark, 4-star safety Antoine Wilder and 3-star inside linebacker Jalen Henry. On Monday, they added their fifth commitment of the month and their 15th total commitment in the class of 2015 wen 3-star weak-side defensive end Quandeski Whitlow gave his pledge to the Gamecocks.
“I’m happy. It relieves a lot of stress,” Whitlow said via West Mitchell of 24/7 Sports. “I like the distance from home, it’s within driving distance for my family in Alabama. The coaches are always positive. They have great personalities. And I just feel like it’s home. It can be another home for me at South Carolina.”
Whitlow took an official visit to Columbia over the weekend and received an offer from Steve Spurrier’s squad on Saturday. It didn’t take him long to make up his mind.
“The people up there are just great people,” Whitlow said. “People that I don’t even know were talking to me and I would like to be a part of a community like that.”
The 6′, 221-pounder attends Opelika High School in Opelika, Alabama. He is ranked as the country’s 31st-best weak-side defensive end prospect, the 26th-best overall prospect from the state of Alabama and the 698th-best overall prospect in the country, according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings.
Whitlow also holds offers from the Kentucky Wildcats, Louisville Cardinals, Miami Hurricanes, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Nebraska Cornhuskers and Virginia Tech Hokies, among others.
