College World Series 2014 bracket: UC Irvine eliminated from Omaha
By Jack Crosby
Coming into the 2014 College World Series, if there was one team that everyone could consider the “fan favorite,” it was the UC Irvine Anteaters. Everyone loved the underdogs from the west coast, but unfortunately on Wednesday night, their trip came to an abrupt at following a 1-0 loss to the Texas Longhorns.

UC Irvine started out their College World Series experience, ironically enough, with a win over these Longhorns. They took care of business, 3-1, and it seemed like everything would be smooth sailing from there.
Unfortunately, in their next outing, they were dropped by the Vanderbilt Commodores in a close one, 6-4, putting them on the brink of elimination heading into Wednesday night.
On this Wednesday night, they just couldn’t get the bats going like they were able to, not only in their first two games of the series, but throughout the entire tournament in general.
In the game, they actually were able to hold off the Texas offense throughout most of the contest, that was until the seventh inning when Texas’ C.J Hinojosa homered to left field. That one run would prove to be all that Texas needed to advance, and send the Anteaters packing.
