Unfortunately for Embiid, his injury is expected to “shake up the draft” and it appears that he will no longer be in the mix for the No. 1 overall pick that will be made by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
During an appearance on FOX Sports Live on Thursday night, NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Cavaliers are no longer interested in the idea of adding the big man to their roster with the top pick.
“Cleveland is not going to consider Embiid at No. 1, league sources tell me,” Wojnarowski said.
A statement was released on Thursday that explained Embiid’s injury and how he will be moving forward with his recovery.
“Joel Embiid suffered a stress fracture to the navicular bone in his right foot,” his agent, Arn Tellem said in a statement. “He is scheduled to have surgery tomorrow. Joel will be unable to participate in any additional workouts, and will not attend the draft in New York. We will have no further comment until after the surgery.”
We will now have to wait and see what player the Cavaliers will shift their attention to.
