Just three days after Sherman was announced the winner, Seahawks fan Jason Coiner took to change.org to petition EA Sports to include the entire “Legion of Boom” on the cover of the game.
According to the petition, Coiner believes that the entire team deserves to be honored, not just Sherman. Coiner stated the following in created the petition:
"Football is a team sport and our Seattle Seahawks won the SuperBowl with that philosophy. Richard Sherman would like the entire Legion Of Boom on the cover and why not celebrate one of the most physical defenses of all time by having them all on the cover of Madden."
Conier is a clearly a die-hard Seahawks fan, but he isn’t from Seattle, or Washington even. He’s actually from the Cleveland, Ohio area and a member of the Midwest Seahawks Boosters Club.
At the time of publication, the change.org petition had 5,661 signatures and was in need of 1,839 more signatures to reach its goal.
Sherman is just the third defensive player to appear on the cover of the game, joining Ray Lewis (2005) and Troy Polamalu (2010). Yet, he wouldn’t mind sharing the honor with the rest of his defensive teammates, telling Seahawks.com, “I’ve been trying to get the Legion of Boom on the cover, and EA has been fighting me. So if anybody wants to start a petition to get the Legion of Boom on the cover, here it is, here’s an open invitation.”
