The Cincinnati Reds were playing at PNC Park against the Pittsburgh Pirates during a three game series this week. During Thursday’s game, a Pirates fan got a special message from Brandon Phillips.

The heckler was apparently yelling at Reds first baseman Joey Votta. After a rain delay, he turned his attention to Phillips. Perhaps in an attempt to rattle the players, the heckler kept at it. Due to the terrible weather, the stadium was rather empty and the yells could be heard loud and clear to those on the field.
After the game, Phillips threw a ball to the man who had been yelling with a special message.
The ball was signed on the back as well.
Despite words exchanged, everyone had a great attitude about the situation, and Phillips even stopped and took a selfie with the man and his brother before leaving.
The good attitude of Phillips even created a couple of new Reds fans… that is if it doesn’t interfere with them rooting for the Pirates.
A reddit post has appeared with further comments and more about the story. One fan even said they could hear the heckling through the television broadcast. No wonder Phillips decided to say something!
