MLB Trade Rumors: Giants among teams scouting David Price

Things have gone south in a hurry for the Tampa Bay Rays and now the surprising non-contenders may be looking to sell off valuable parts. No one on the Rays’ roster is more valuable than David Price, so it’s not surprising that multiple teams were on hand to watch the Rays’ starter go to work Friday night.

ESPN’s Buster Olney tweeted during the telecast about one particular team who had a scout in attendance most likely to watch Price throw the baseball:

The Blue Jays, Yankees, Indians and Cardinals also reportedly had people on hand for the game.
The scouts must have been impressed by what they saw from Price Friday night. The hurler struck out 12 batters on the way to allowing just two runs in a loss to the Astros. And that’s the story on David Price: he pitches great but the Rays lose.
The Giants are on the opposite end of the spectrum from the Rays. San Francisco is winning games at a great clip and are looking to add at least one more big pitching piece in hopes of fending off the Dodgers and going back to the World Series. San Francisco has looked at Jeff Samardzija in addition to Price.
David Price in that rotation with Madison Bumgarner, Matt Cain, Tim Hudson and Tim Lincecum would be sick. The only sad thing would be seeing David Price leave the AL East. It’s fun watching him spar with David Ortiz and the Red Sox.
For the sake of Price’s sanity though, a move to San Francisco would probably be a good thing. The Rays are a trainwreck.
