In an appearance on ESPN’s Numbers Never Lie, Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo made it clear he’d like to see Carmelo Anthony in Celtic green next season.
However, even Rondo couldn’t deny there’s a much better landing spot for Melo far away from Boston, that is playing alongside Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah in Chicago.
From The Basketball Insiders:
"“I hate to say it, but he just might be [the missing piece],’’ Rondo said on ESPN’s Numbers Never Lie. “[The Bulls] have a great center in Joakim Noah who holds down the paint and one of the best pick-and-roll defenders in our league. And with Derrick Rose coming back, you have a Big Three in Chicago. Melo could be the missing piece, but if he does a move like that, we’ll have to figure out something in Boston.’’"
Considering the lack of offensive firepower the Bulls have had for the past few seasons, it’s hard to argue that Anthony wouldn’t be a fantastic addition there.
And unfortunately for Rondo and his Celtics, Carmelo seems to recognize that and has significant interest in the Bulls, according to Chris Herring of the Wall Street Journal.
"According to a league source, Anthony is intrigued by the idea of playing for Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau. During the season, Anthony sought out multiple ex-Chicago wing players—separate from the widely reported conversations he had with Bulls center Joakim Noah, the NBA’s reigning Defensive Player of the Year—about Thibodeau, according to the source."
Anthony has until Monday to decide whether to opt-in for the remaining year on his current contract with the New York Knicks or become an unrestricted free agent.
