It is official, New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony has opted out of his contract and is headed towards free agency. The Houston Rockets are rumored to be amongst the teams looking to pursue Anthony, hoping to make their own “Big Three” with Anthony, Dwight Howard and James Harden.

It isn’t that easy for the Rockets though, they’d need to clear some cap space to offer him a max-deal. That means shipping off point guard Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik. Not exactly two of the most desirable players, and not exactly salaries a team would want to take on.
Still, it is possible the Rockets could clear the cap space to pursue Anthony. The only issue is that NBA teams might not be willing to play along to help the Rockets land Carmelo Anthony. Teams around the league might not be eager to see Anthony join the Rockets and understandably so.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix, some rival executives in the NBA seem to think that might be the case.
Rival execs are skeptical about Houston's ability to dump enough salary to clear max money...especially if it means helping Rox land 'Melo

Teams around the league might be fed up with allowing the teams to create “Big Threes” and deciding to no longer help. If that is true, it could create an interesting situation in free agency for Anthony.
