Houston Rockets

You want explosive offense? Adding Carmelo Anthony to James Harden, Dwight Howard and Chandler Parsons would be like throwing gasoline on a fire. Harden is already one of the league’s best in getting to the foul line and Howard is as much of a foul magnet as any in the paint. Adding a physical forward like Anthony means the Rockets would absolutely lead the league in free-throws (again).

Let’s look at this from the common perspective — would they be able to defend anyone? Harden is one of the poorest defenders in the game and that’s not up for debate. Howard is still terrific, though he doesn’t get as much credit as he should. With that said, did you realize that despite allowing 103.1 points per game (No. 23 in NBA) that the Rockets were actually No. 13 in defensive rating?

Patrick Beverley and Omer Asik did a lot of work for this club that went overlooked. They lost their opening round series in 2014 against the Portland Trail Blazers because they couldn’t convert late in games. Harden shot his team out of the series, but they didn’t have many options. Adding Melo makes this Rockets team one of the favorites in the Western Conference, without question.
