Joel Embiid Tweets ‘I’m a Laker’
By Sam Richmond
If Joel Embiid didn’t understand the power of social media before, he definitely knows now. A tweet appeared on the former Kansas center’s account today that essentially said he was going to be drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in tonight’s NBA Draft.
However, Embiid would quickly delete the tweet and clarify that it did not come from him, but rather one of his friends.
He also made it clear he would like all of us to get out of his Twitter mentions.
While it’s a go-to-move from someone in the public light to lie and say their account was hacked or something of that sort when they tweet something they shouldn’t have, there’s no reason to believe Embiid isn’t being truthful here.

First of all, there’s little chance Embiid could know for a fact, considering all the trades and moves yet to take place today, where exactly he’s going. Secondly, assuming he did have a promise from the Lakers, there is no benefit for him to let that information be known at this point.
This seems to be exactly what Embiid says it is: a silly prank by one of his buddies. But it doesn’t look like Embiid himself found any humor in it.
Draft Express ranks Embiid as the No.1 prospect available in tonight’s NBA Draft and its latest projection has him heading to the Philadelphia 76ers at No.3, not the Los Angeles Lakers at No. 7.
