On Wednesday night, the New Orleans Pelicans got some tremendous help for Anthony Davis in the paint as they struck a deal with the Houston Rockets that gave them big man Omer Asik. With that move, though, we all imagined that the team would try and clear some cap space, and it seems they may do so by moving former Top 10 pick, Austin Rivers.

Drafted with the 10th overall pick in the 2012 Draft after a stellar showing at Duke, Rivers’ NBA career hasn’t gotten off to the start that a lot of people thought it would. Last season, the former college sharpshooter only averaged 7.7 points per game with 1.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists.
According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the team is not only looking to make this move to get the financial room needed, but there’s also a good chance that he could end up with his dad, Doc, and the Los Angeles Clippers.
More dominos will fall in Asik-to-Pelicans deal. N.O. may move Austin Rivers to create cap space. One option: dad Doc owns trade exception

A lot was expected from Rivers early on in his career, and it just hasn’t panned out that way. However, maybe a move to go with his father and a successful Clippers team could reinvigorate his career a little bit and he could become a solid rotation player on that roster.
