NBA Trade: New Orleans Pelicans acquire Russ Smith for Pierre Jackson
By Josh Hill
The NBA Draft is into the second round but there still seems to be plenty of great players out there to be had. One of those players is Russ Smith who didn’t have a lot of tread on his tires left after he went through the grind at Louisville but he comes to the NBA with a lot of winning experience.

He’s not floating around anymore though as the Philadelphia 76ers drafted Smith with the No. 47 overall pick in the draft. Smith won’t be staying there long though as the Sixers were quick to flip him to the New Orleans Pelicans in a trade.
The trade frees Pierre Jackson from the clutches of the New Orleans Pelicans and it also gives New Orleans yet another guard which means something is going to be happening with one or two they already have.
There have been rumors that the Pelicans could trade Austin Rivers and there’s also Eric Gordon to consider as trade bait as well. Either way, the Pelicans added a stellar young prospect in Russ Smith who will help compliment and backup Jrue Holiday moving forward.
