There are over a thousand baseball games played per season in Major League Baseball alone, so a no-hitter is indeed a rare site to behold. Add in minor league games and the the percentage of no hitters drops even more.

The rarity of no-hitters thrown in games these days is why it’s so crazy that the Lynchburg Hillcats, a Braves Class A Minor League affiliate, threw two no hitters in a row. Both games were against the Willmington Bluerocks a Kansas City Royals Class A Minor League affiliate.
On Thursday, the Hillcats had Lucas Sims on the mound who threw seven hitless innings but still allowed a run due to allowing 4 walks. Alex Wilson came in after Sims and finished the game to give the Hillcats a no hitter.
Then, on Friday, Cody Scarpetta of the Hillcats had a fantastic 7 innings with seven strikeouts before Benino Pruneda came in to finish the job. Pruneda pitched the final two innings, completing two straight no hitters for the Hillcats.
While most no hitters that are talked about are when an individual pitcher throws a no hitter, that doesn’t take anything away from this. A no hitter is always impressive no matter the level of play. For a team to get it twice in a row, on the same opponent? That’s insanity. To go along with the insanity is that the Blue Rocks seriously went two straight games without a single hit. their managers have to be stunned by that. The deeper you dig, the crazier it seems to sound.
