One of those teams are the Los Angeles Lakers, although it seems they’re still a ways off from being anywhere near a respectable team. That being said, they’re not letting their bad run over these last few years take them out of the winning mindset they’ve grown accustom to over the last 30 years.
According to Marc J. Spears from Yahoo! Sports, the Los Angeles Lakers are indeed on the list of teams that Carmelo Anthony will be meeting with when free agency officially opens on July 1st.
The question then is what can the Lakers expect their chances to be when it comes to signing Melo to a contract. They have a plethora of cap space to make it happen but they boast a less than impressive roster of talent. The Lakers drafted Julius Randle with the No. 7 overall pick in the Draft last night and they have Kobe Bryant to use as a selling point but that’s really not all that attractive.
Still, the Lakers are a basketball brand that is attractive on it’s own and free agents have long seen Los Angeles as a destination. The Clippers may be the better team, but the Lakers offer a chance for a star free agent to be the player who resurrects an iconic franchise.
That’s the best selling tool the Lakers have and they’ll try to use it as they attempt to recruit Carmelo Anthony.
