The first round of the NHL Draft has come and gone, leaving behind a slew of player who have been picked and are ready to try and become the next great stars of the game. One of the most talked about names heading into the draft was that of Sam Bennett, a player some thought might be the No. 1 overall pick.

Bennett didn’t end up going until the No. 4 overall pick but he ended up going to the team he was hoping would pick him. After watching three of his fellow top prospects get selected before him, Bennett heard his name called by the Calgary Flames and it was a dream come true.
"“Before the draft, I had visited Calgary actually and when I got home, I went and saw my parents and was like, ‘Mom, Dad, I want to be a Calgary Flame and I want to play in Calgary.’ ” Bennett said.“To have that come true is unbelievable.”"
Calgary is now hoping that Bennett can become what Nathan MacKinnon was to the Colorado Avalanche last season where he led them to the postseason and then became a sensation. Bennett has a bright future ahead of him and it’s not just he who is excited about the draft selection.
Last year the Flames used a high pick to take Sean Monahan and the hope is that he forms a dynamic duo with Bennett that returns Calgary to glory on the ice once again.
