The Boston Bruins are in a bit of a cap crunch as they need to start figurting out ways they can retain players or add them without having a whole lot of cap space or money to do so. The draft this weekend will be of little help outside of a possible trade scenario, as the players being taken are a year or two away from being NHL-ready.

More from Boston Bruins

One player who is on the opposite end of that scale is Jarome Iginla, and it’s looking more and more likely that his days in Boston are over.

According to CSNNE.com, the salary cap change means that the Boston Bruins will be unlikely to bring back Jarome Iginila, even more so than they already were.

"The big issue is a $4.75 million bonus overage penalty on next season’s cap levied in the Bruins for bonus money paid out to Jarome Iginla, Torey Krug and Dougie Hamilton last season. Clearly, in hindsight, Peter Chiarelli was “all in” going for it last season by signing Iginla to the one year deal, and didn’t get the playoff result to match the big price he’s going to pay this year."

This really isn’t all that shocking considering that it was doubtful to begin with that the Bruins could being back Iginla next season. The next question is where could he land should he decide to keep playing, which it seems he almost certaintly does.

The Detroit Red Wings have been mentioned as potential top suitors for Iginla in free agency but we can never count out other teams on the prowl for veteran skaters as the Pittsburgh Penguins, Chicago Blackhawks and even the Minnesota Wild could all take a look at Iginla to see what they could get him for.

He won’t be back in Boston though, and Iginla’s hunt for a Stanley Cup before he retires continues into another summer.
