If you ever watch a Cincinnati Reds broadcast, its not likely that you’ll confuse catcher Brayan Pena or pitcher Alfredo Simon for Billy Hamilton. However, earlier this week, that may have not been the case.

Okay…it was still the case. But it didn’t stop Pena or Simon from trying to show each other up in a test of speed prior to a Reds game, as the two had a foot race.
It appears that Pena won the race by a narrow margin, possibly solidifying himself as the 749th fastest player in Major League Baseball. The race was shown in its entirety Friday night durin the Reds-Giants game.
The 6 foot, 6 inch Alfredo Simon was given new life by the Cincinnati Reds in 2012 after being waived by the Baltimore Orioles. In 2012 and 2013, Simon was an extremely successful long and middle reliever for the Reds, going 9-6, with two saves and a 2.78 ERA in 99 relief appearances. He took Mat Latos’ spot in the Reds rotation this year while Latos was out with an injury. Simon ended up keeping his spot in the rotation, as he leads the National League with 10 wins through his first 15 starts. Simon also sports a 2.92 ERA.
For the record, Pena and Simon have a combined four career stolen bases; all of which belong to Pena, and two of which have taken place this season.
