Washington Wizards add Daniel Orton to Summer League roster
By Chris Walder
According to a report by Michael Scotto of Sheridan Hoops, the Washington Wizards have added center Daniel Orton to their Summer League roster.
Orton was selected with the No. 29 pick in the first round of the 2010 NBA draft by the Orlando Magic.
He’s had short stints with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Philadelphia 76ers over the past three seasons, including back-and-forth runs in the NBA Developmental League.
Orton’s best season came last year with the 76ers. He averaged 3.0 points and 2.8 rebounds in 22 appearances.

Otto Porter, Washington’s No. 3 pick in 2013, is also expected to be a part of the team.
The Las Vegas Summer League will run from July 11 to 21.
Orton isn’t adept at playing with his back to the basket, rarely utilizing his 6’10, 275 pound frame to his advantage. Issues with his knee have given him problems in the past, although it appears that he is working under near perfect health.
What must be a tad disheartening is that no one from the Wizards’ 2013 Summer League roster made the team that season. It’s going to take one heck of an effort on Orton’s part to win over the coaching staff and earn himself another shot in the NBA.
The Wizards could always use more depth in their frontcourt, especially with the impeding free agency of starting center Marcin Gortat. Orton should have every opportunity to earn himself some backers in Las Vegas.
