The NHL offseason is here and that means not only will we be hearing plenty about free agents and where they could land but we’re also looking at aged veterans who are at the end of their careers and whether or not they’ll return or retire. Jarome Iginla is one of these players but it appears the Minnesota Wild may be trying to convince him to continue his hunt for a Stanley Cup with them.

More from Detroit Red Wings

Daniel Alfredsson is also one of these players and he faces a decision this offseason that many Detroit Red Wings will be watching closely.

According to ESPN.com’s Pierre LeBrun, Alfredsson is mulling his options for next season between retiring from the game of hockey or returning for one more season to continue chasing a Stanley Cup.

"“I think right now, Daniel — not unlike a lot of veteran guys in his situation and his age — just wants to take his time and make the right decision,” his agent J.P. Barry of CAA said Saturday. “He wants to feel 100 percent before he makes any decision.“I think he’s leaning towards playing, we all think that, but at the same time he needs that time in the summer to feel 100 percent.”"

As LeBrun points out, if Alfredsson returns for the 2014-15 season is t will likely be only for the Detroit Red Wings and not for anyone else.

Alfredsson is still chasing a Stanley Cup but he may have already run out of gas. If he chooses to return, it’s unclear how effective he’ll be but the game might not be ready to let go of the veteran just as much as he’s not ready to let go of the game.
