The Rockets acquired Lowry from the Memphis Grizzlies during the 2008-2009 season and wound up becoming their backup point guard. He finally became a starter in 2010, but wasn’t viewed high by the Rockets. They clearly knew he was a talented player but he was looked at as a malcontent with attitude problems. The Rockets clearly became fed up with those issues and dealt him to the Raptors in 2012 in exchange for a first round pick, among other assets (The Rockets used that pick to acquire guard James Harden from the Oklahoma City Thunder so it’s hard to complain about the move).
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, the Rockets tried to bring Lowry back prior to the trade deadline and are attempting to do so once again. Rockets’ general manager Daryl Morey has flown to Philadelphia to meet with Lowry.
The Raptors are planning to make Lowry a huge offer to retain him.
Lowry averaged 17.9 points, 7.4 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 42.3% from the field, 38.0% from beyond the arc and 81.3% from the charity stripe for the Raptors last season.
