The Carmelo Anthony circus has finished up in Chicago and has headed to Texas for the day where the free agent forward will be meeting with Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks to hear their pitches to him.

More from Houston Rockets

The Rockets seem to be up there with the Bulls in terms of having the best chances of landing Melo this summer but it’s still going to take some internal effort to convince him to sign in Houston.

According to Ian Begley Jr from ESPN New York, Dwight Howard had been mum about his interest in recruiting Melo but he not only is going to sit in on a meeting with the Knicks star but he’s doing so because he wants the Rockets to sign the free agent ‘badly’.

"“He really wants to sell him on Houston,” a source with knowledge of Howard’s thinking said. “He wants Carmelo there badly.”"

It looked like Howard was unsure he wanted to get tangled up in the free agent recruiting mess but either that was just a lie or the efforts rolled out by the Bulls which included a special and extremely rare visit from Derrick Rose, changed his mind.

Howard helping in the recruiting should have been a given anyways, as he wants ownership of the role as leader on the team and making sure you’re there for big free agent recruiting meetings is a requirement. There are questions about Kobe Bryant meeting with Melo but the Lakers chances of signing the star are much lower than that of the Rockets and those chances improve now that Howard is in the meetings.
