NBA free agency got off to something of a slow start yesterday, since everyone’s waiting for the LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony signings to happen before the rest of the league’s pieces start falling into place. That gave us time to dream about offseason transactions we’d like to see across the NBA: free agent signings, trades and a LOT of Isaiah Thomas. First, though, is the one player who’s not yet a free agent — but might as well be.

If You Love Love, Set Him Free

It’s time for Kevin Love to be dealt to the Chicago Bulls.

More from Chicago Bulls

As a Timberwolves fan, I don’t really want to see him go, but since he clearly wants out and is pushing for a deal behind the scenes, we might as well get it overwith.

As a basketball fan, the idea of a Rose-Noah-Love four letter name triumvirate is fascinating. Love and Noah would complement one another beautifully in the front court and the combination would instantly become one of the best passing tandem of big men in the history of the league.

Some combination of Jimmy Butler, Taj Gibson, the rights to Nikola Mirotic, picks, and taking back Carlos Boozer’s large expiring contract ought to be enough to get the deal done. That sounds better than the Golden State or Boston packages and would enable Minnesota to start over with both an established player (or two) and future assets.

But chances are Flip Saunders wants to drag this out and begin the season with Love in the fold, which would be awkward. I hate awkward. So end it now and get the Bulls on the horn.
