The Clippers hired head coach Doc Rivers away from the Boston Celtics (and he has since been made president of the team as well), acquired former Orlando Magic and Milwaukee Bucks’ guard J.J. Redick in a sign-and-trade and signed point guard Darren Collison away from the Dallas Mavericks.
On Thursday, the Clippers lost Collison. Collison agreed to a three-year, $16 million deal with the Sacramento Kings as a potential replacement for or supplement to restricted free agent point guard Isaiah Thomas. The Clippers expressed their desire to retain Collison, who opted out of the second year of his contract. In fact, Rivers even told reporters, Collison was their number one priority, saying Collison is “a little guy that’s very important to us.”
The Clippers, who have interest in the two big fish in free agency, Miami Heat forward LeBron James and New York Knicks’ forward Carmelo Anthony and several other key free agents like Cleveland Cavaliers’ forward Luol Deng, Brooklyn Nets’ swingman Paul Pierce, Washington Wizards’ swingman Trevor Ariza, Cleveland Cavaliers’ big man Spencer Hawes, Memphis Grizzlies’ forward Mike Miller and Grizzlies’ big man Ed Davis.
According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN Los Angeles, citing league sources, the Clippers have reached out to Los Angeles Lakers’ point guard Jordan Farmar.
Farmar averaged 10.1 points, 4.9 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 0.9 steals in 22.2 minutes per game while shooting 41.5% from the field, 43.8% from beyond the arc and 74.6% from the charity stripe. Farmar spent the first four years of his career with the Brooklyn (then-New Jersey) Nets before rejoining the Lakers last season.
